Beginner's guide to buying bulk beef

At Mangarara, every quarter of beef tells a story - a story of care, connection, and commitment to the land. Our cattle roam freely on open pastures, nourished by healthy soil and sunshine. When you order a quarter beef from us, you’re not just buying meat - you’re becoming part of tribe of Careholders and help us give back to the land that sustains us.

Nothing is wasted here. The bones return to the land to nourish new life; the meat goes to nourish families. It’s a way of farming built on respect - for the animal, for the land, and for the people who share in its bounty. From our farm to your table, you’ll taste the difference that pride and purpose make.

How much meat is a half a beast?

A half a beast from Mangarara means ordering around 140kg of carcass weight. After secondary processing and boning, we expect aroud 65-70% yield. This means approximately 95kg of premium, pasture-raised beef, including up to 15kg of handmade sausages is being delivered to your doorstep.

You’ll receive a balanced mix of steaks, roasts, mince, stewing cuts, and sausages — a full variety from nose to tail.

A half typically lasts 6–7 months for a family of four (2–3 beef meals per week, ~1.75kg/week). For a small family of three, expect 8–9 months, and for a large family of six, around 4–5 months.
